Vote for me as a Calgary Co-op Director because the team needs a seasoned senior real-estate executive to monitor the rapidly expanding portfolio of real property being developed by the Calgary Cooperative Association Ltd.

What are the special attributes and experience that make you a strong candidate for Calgary Co-op’s board?

The 2017 Annual Report discloses that Calgary Co-op has a property and equipment portfolio approaching $300 million in value. Recently, it was announced that ambitious plans were being undertaken to develop and/or acquire further properties to compliment the existing real estate housing Calgary Co-op’s retail operations. Such property portfolios need people with real estate expertise to sit on the board of directors, be it Calgary Cooperative Association Ltd. or any other large organization. With several decades of real estate executive experience, including being the vice-president responsible for managing and acquiring property portfolios in the $100 million range, my experience and qualifications will bring this necessary value to the board. Vote for me as a Calgary Co-op Director because I understand the tradition that co-ops have helping members, and strengthening communities - economically and socially; I look forward to defending co-operative principles and values.

What are the special attributes and experience that make you a strong candidate for Calgary Co-op’s board?

Growing up in rural Saskatchewan, where co-ops are vital parts of the community, I understand the role they have in improving communities and want to support that tradition in Calgary.

I believe that in an increasingly challenging retail environment Co-op must differentiate itself, and co-operative principles should serve as the basis. Co-op must be price-competitive and accountable to members, supplying affordable and high- quality products. At the same time however, co-ops have an inherent social foundation – concern for customers, community, and employees – that foundation should guide Co-op’s direction.

My experience includes current employment as Senior Heritage (urban) Planner for The City of Calgary, and I continue to farm part-time on my family’s organic grain farm in southern Saskatchewan.

Why do you want to serve on the Calgary Co-op Board of Directors?

As a Director, a priority for me will be that Calgary Co-op provides more local/ regional, organic, and humanely raised food. This market segment is under-served and holds great opportunity for Co-op. In effect, this will also help to strengthen the area economy, and will help to support sustainable agriculture / family farms – and result in healthier food.
