Crab or Shrimp Dip

  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 jalapenos, seeded and finely diced
  • 1 thumb ginger, peeled and minced
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 3 tbsp white wine
  • 500 g cream cheese
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 bunches parsley, picked and chopped
  • 1 lemon, zest and juice
  • 4 green onions, julienned
  • 1 lb crabmeat or baby shrimp (or a combination)
  • 1/2 cup sourdough bread crumbs
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • 3/4 tsp cayenne

How to Make It

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. In a medium-sized sauté pan over medium heat, heat a splash of olive oil. 
  3. Add onion, garlic, jalapeño and ginger and season lightly with salt. When the onions become translucent, add vinegar and white wine; cook until reduced and remove from heat.
  4. In the work bowl of a food processor, purée the cream cheese, mayonnaise, parsley, lemon juice and zest and green onions.
  5. Transfer to a large bowl and gently mix in the seafood and sautéed mixture. Transfer to a casserole dish and spread evenly.
  6. In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs, butter and spices.
  7. Sprinkle the crumbs over the mix and bake in oven until hot, and crust has crisped and lightly browned, approximately 15 minutes.
